A few questions about travelling by train with a baby

Pushchair, changing bag, suitcases, baby carrier, cot, comforter, emergency comforter (non-exhaustive list)... Organising a holiday departure with a baby is like organising an exceptional convoy.

To make your train journey (and that of your child) as easy as possible, here are some answers to your most frequently asked questions.

    No, it's not compulsory.

With TGV INOUI, TER and INTERCITÉS, your child under the age of 41travels free of charge on your lap or in his or her baby carrier, without having to reserve a seat.

However, if you want your baby to have his or her own seat - to fit a carrycot, for example - opt for a Forfait Bambin at €9. This reduced fare is offered to you by default when you make your reservation.

With OUIGO, the little ones can travel for free on your lap.

OUIGO is also committed to children's travel.

For children aged 4 and over, you benefit from a fixed price, regardless of the departure and arrival stations of your TGV. On High Speed Trains, OUIGO offers children's tickets at €8. Are you travelling on a Classic Train? The price of a child's ticket is a single €5.

Access our nursery areas and give your child a clean, dry journey. Easily identifiable on board the TGV INOUI, INTERCITÉS and OUIGO trains thanks to their logo, they are equipped with a changing table so you can change your baby in peace.

For your convenience, if your train has a TGV INOUI Bistro (car 4 or 14), the baristas can heat up baby bottles and baby food for children up to 3 years old, in quantities and containers adapted to this age.

The transport of a pushchair is free (up to a limit of 2 pushchairs per journey on OUIGO). You can store your pushchair in the space provided for luggage.

Exceptionally, the pushchair can be stored folded between 2 carriages, provided that it does not block access to the train doors and the safe movement of passengers.

During an INTERCITÉS night journey, your child can travel free of charge in the same couchette as you. If you would like a couchette for your baby, buy a Forfait Bambin Nuit ticket, specifying the place next to your already reserved seats.

With TGV INOUI, stress-free travel for all the family in an area reserved primarily for families: the Espace Famille2. It can be booked in 2ndclass on all TGV INOUI trains at weekends, school holidays and bank holidays.

Travel in the company of other families to make your journey a moment of pleasure and memories for your children.

For journeys with toddlers, a nursery corner is located close to the area.

If you are travelling on an INTERCITÉS train on the Paris-Limoges-Toulouse line, you can go to the Espace Kid, located in the Services carriage (carriage 3 or 13 depending on the layout of the train).

A play mat, cushions... everything you need to keep your children entertained during the journey. Our fixed seats, specially adapted for passengers aged 1 to 4, guarantee their safety.
Also available in the Espace Kid :

    • changing tables
    • sockets for bottle warmers
    • luggage for pushchairs

If you are travelling on one of the new OUIGO trains, a Relax area with games is available.

1 To prove your child's age, you must present your family record book and an identity document. For travel within Europe, each child under the age of 4 must have their own ID to travel.

2 The Espace Famille is available at weekends from Friday 2pm to Sunday afternoon, during school holidays and bank holidays.
